See Websites as if You were Colorblind

Tuesday, March 25th, 2008

I was designing a website lately and wondered if what I was creating could be viewed properly by my Dad, who happens to be red-green colorblind. He could never find those bright, neon orange golf balls on the fairway – so I had to point them out for him. So I was curious what he actually sees when he views the pages I have designed. So I did some searching and found the “Color Blind Web Page Filter”. Just plug in the web page you’d like to view, then select the type of colorblindness filter you want (I don’t really know the differences or which is most common, but I assume the default is the most common). Fun to play with, but also interesting to consider when designing accessible web pages.

Is anti-virus software any good anymore?

Thursday, December 27th, 2007

Good question. There doesn’t seem to be a real standout program lately – so I want to try them out for myself. The programs I’ve been installing and recommending – Spyware Doctor, AVG Anti-Virus, Webroot Spysweeper, NOD32 – plus a few more that I’m not too sure about – Norton 360, Trend Micro Internet Security, McAfee. I want to install these on a test machine and report back about how they work. If I don’t get to it right away, be patient. We’ve been pretty busy lately! Leave a comment if there is a program you want to know more about, or if you have a favorite or least favorite.
