Brad’s PC Repair is now HelpTechs!

Wednesday, June 9th, 2010

I’m excited to introduce to you our new company name: HelpTechs.

Back in 2003 when I started Brad’s PC Repair, we did mainly that – repair PC’s. Since then, technology has changed and so has our company. One thing that hasn’t changed, however, is the way we treat our customers.

I’ve always believed that technology should make our lives easier, not more difficult. There are plenty of “computer geeks” out there whose only goal in life is to make non-techie folks feel intimidated or stupid. Funny thing is, they are usually just repeating big words they read in a computer magazine or some techno-blog.

Sure, making technical problems sound easy isn’t always easy. Often times I end up reaching for the Advil after a long day troubleshooting computers. The rewards are worth it. Making people smile about their computer they we’re cursing at minutes earlier is what I enjoy most.

HelpTechs is a name we chose because it represents what we do best: Help people with technology. Our mission statement is this: “Know people. Know technology.” When we’re focused on accomplishing both of these things I know we’re on the right track. You may not be a tech wizard, but you’re an expert at something that I’m probably not (and I’m not an expert at a lot of things).

The best part about being in a business that helps people everyday is that no matter how technology changes, I’ll always have a career that is challenging and rewarding. So for that I say “Thank you!”

Soon we’ll be launching our new website at gohelptechs.com, and we’ve already got the new signs up at the office. Give us a call if you find yourself saying, “Help!”

Skip College. Learn Software Skills 100% Online.

Grow your brain.

If you’re the type of person who’s sat through college classes and then told all of your friends that you didn’t learn anything, then you need to read this post.

My high school computer instructor thought he was the man. He taught us amazing computer skills like…wait for it…how to put bullet points into Microsoft Word. Give me a break.

About 3 years ago I discovered Lynda.com. It was like stumbling into a gold mine of knowledge. Programs I thought I’d have to go to technical school to learn we’re all being laid out and explained in detail right before my eyes. I didn’t hesitate to sign up. Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects, Flash – the list of programs just went on and on.

On top of that, these instructors were doing tutorials on programs that hadn’t even been released yet. Lynda.com was giving me a backstage pass to all these programs I had been dying to learn. And get this: it cost me less than $7 bucks a week.

If you were bored to the point of stabbing your eye with a pencil in school like I was, than you need to check out Lynda.com. It’s an almost limitless source of information and even if you tried, you still probably couldn’t manage to avoid learning something new.
