Blockbuster fixing PC’s?

Thursday, April 24th, 2008

In the future, you may be sitting at home eating dinner, when a TV ad comes on with what used to be your local Blockbuster store, now with Firedog signs in the window, a black & green Firedog hatchback parked on the sidewalk. The voice-over will be going on and on about how convenient it will be to be able to rent a copy of Will Ferrell’s “Semi-Pro” while some pimply teenager will scour your computer for viruses.

Of course, Circuit City would first have to take the buyout deal from Blockbuster, Inc. who according to the Washington Post article has “made a hostile $1.35 billion bid for Circuit City.”

Lots of industry experts are questioning the deal and its benefits for either of the struggling companies.

I don’t care so much about how it will affect these company’s bottom line, I just wonder how many more inexperienced, obnoxious consumer pc service centers we really need. The ones that Circuit City has are already bad enough. I can’t imagine having them in my face at every Blockbuster when I’m trying to kick back a find a good movie to rent.

Windows Vista - Not a joking matter to business

Thursday, April 17th, 2008

I don’t usually post goofy videos - but this one doesn’t take much explanation if you’re a business user that has experienced the woes of Windows Vista.

It’s an internal Microsoft Sales video promoting Windows Vista’s new Service Pack 1. Exciting…

Apples vs. Oranges: 20″ iMac displays disappoint

Wednesday, April 2nd, 2008

Apple is being sued class-action style. Apparently (or not so apparently) the 20″ screens on the newest generation of the iMac display far fewer colors than the earlier model and the 24″ screens on the current models.

“Apple is duping its customers into thinking they’re buying ‘new and improved’ when in fact they’re getting stuck with ‘new and inferior’,” said Kabateck Brown Kellner managing partner Brian Kabateck, in a statement. “Beneath Apple’s ‘good guy’ image is a corporation that takes advantage of its customers.”

Some Mac aficionados were aware of these differences before the products hit store shelves, but according to Apple’s own website, the displays were touted as being equally capable.

I’m just happy that there’s at least one thing my iMac does better than the new ones - I bought mine 3 weeks before the new 20″ models came out for $300 more. Maybe I actually did get what I paid for!
