Share your wireless data card?

Wandering through Best Buy yesterday, I stumbled across this device sitting all alone in a corner, with nobody paying attention to him. I felt bad for the little guy, so I knelt down to take a closer look.

Turns out he’s a wireless router designed specifically for sharing an internet data card on a local network. In other words, the little USB modem you can get from your cellular carrier can be plugged into this router so that all the computers in your home or office can connect to the internet.

I don’t know if this router is compatible with data cards from Alltel or Cricket, but I would assume it works with major carriers like Sprint, Verizon or AT&T.

That's sweet until you leave for work and everyone's mad cause the internet's comming with you.
  • Again, I didn't say this was a for a permanent solution. It's geared toward
those who need a hotspot on the go.
  • Very true. The old days of unlimited data are gone : (

But as a temporary mobile hotspot or backup connection this could get you by in an emergency.
  • Wow, most providers limit you to a few GB of download per month before they charge additional fees. Might be nice for a fail safe, but I wouldn't want that in my office. 3G is nice on a phone, but not as a primary connection.
