Everybody these days is looking to answer the call of the iPhone to deliver a more competitive product. I think the Palm Centro looks kind of interesting. It’s based on the tried-and-true (or some would say old and boring) Palm OS, includes features such as web browsing and Google maps, and is slimmer and lighter then it’s big brother, the Treo. Albeit, it is not nearly as slick and shiny as the iPhone, it lends itself more towards affordable and practical, which is what grabs my attention.
One thing I’ve always appreciated about the Palm phones is the one-touch operation. Although I would never use it whilst driving…*cough*…it sure does come in handy when you’re mapping addresses on-the-go. Lots of people don’t seem to notice that the iPhone almost always requires two hands to operate, which for me is a drawback.
Another feature for those in the Nebraska area is it’s network. Sprint and Alltel’s agreement to share cellular towers makes a big difference with their coverage in Lincoln, and rural areas. I don’t know if Alltel is getting the Centro, but they currently carry the Palm Treo, so they should.
